Betogings by universiteite het meer as 300 miljoen Rand se skade veroorsaak

Die departement Hoër Onderwys en Opleiding het onthul dat die landwye betoging teen hoë universiteits-klasgeld skade van meer as 300-miljoen Rand veroorsaak het. Minister Blade Nzimande het op ‘n parlementêre vraag geantwoord dat veertien instellings skadeverslae ingedien het, insluitend die Universiteit Stellenbosch, die Universiteit Noordwes en die Walter Sisulu-universiteit in die Oos-Kaap. Studente het verlede jaar ook betoog teen die uitkontraktering van dienste op kampus.

Die visekanselier van die Universiteit van die Witwatersrand in Johannesburg , Adam Habib, sê intussen die betogings was geregverdig. Hy het op ‘n konferensie in Johannesburg gesê die regering moet nou verskeie en lewensvabare moontlikhede oorweeg om studente te help om vir tersiêre opleiding te betaal.
